USER-Centric

Meet the needs

USER-Centric

Meet the needs

Human centered projects start with observing and identifying needs, trends and problems. Empathizing with the user is a key element to come up with relevant ideas & solutions.

During the research phase it is important to gather as many opinions as possible, to go broad and than narrow it down in teams to filter out important clusters of interest. It helps to picture a day in the target users life to better understand needs. Role plays and scenarios can help to understand how mega trends like sustainability or digitalisation might influence the next generation of solutions.

Creative workshops than build upon those findings and insights to visualise directions that can be discussed with users again to refine needs, goals and wishes.

At the same time the color, material and trim strategy defines the style and functional attributes of the product. Next to the aesthetic value the design also contributes to the longevity and recyclability of the product by defining joints and connections that allow easy refurbishment and disassembly.

Imagine what's next

Visualising the key research findings is essential to discuss ideas with users and stakeholders. The sketching phase begins with a broad variety of quick doodle sketches until discussions lead to several directions that are refined and detailed.

These directions build the base for the final outcome as elements can be added, combined and refined to fit the usability and aesthetic feedback.

Moodboards and material samples communicate the style, look and feel of the final appearance.

Renderings show the final outcome for the first time and set a goal for the prototyping phase. (Photoshop, V-Ray, Keyshot)

The final result can than be rendered in a context scene to present the experience behind the new product.

Sustainable Prototyping

Mockup

Foam, paper, cardboard

Rough mockups create a first glimpse of what can be done and open up space to explore. Paper mock ups can serve as quick ideation method while foam mock ups often show refined volumes, proportion and shapes.

Prototyping

3D print, laser cut, milling

The final result is than realised with precise machinery to receive a look that comes close to the real product. The advanced method is to build a working prototype that not only shows the design, material and color but also the functionality and sound.

Sustainability

Color, material, manufacturing

Innovative materials and state of the art manufacturing methods reduce the CO2 foot print of the product by either binding CO2 or minimizing it through circular recycling, refurbishment and longevity.
